Pittsburgh New Works Theater Festival Highlights Local Talent and Talent from Afar.
Over the last several months, hundreds plays, all original works, were submitted by playwrights from near and far. Of those, a select 18 were chosen for production. Those 18 were whittled down
even more to a selection of 12 original plays to be performed on stage.
CARNEGIE STAGE, conveniently located six miles from downtown Pittsburgh, will provide the stage for the selected winners to showcase their original one-act productions. This program is all about the TWO's. From two estranged sisters, who following the death of their father, work to lay to rest events that upheaved their relationship, to a pilgrimage to the past by a pregnant couple, to two rag dolls boxed in the attic, unsure of their future, everything in this series is based on the relationship of two’s.

Perhaps this series can be considered the Prima Donna series. Someone from a queen's past threatens to blow her present to smithereens. An aging actress doesn't sell the director by her charm during her audition, but past truths may change his mind. Two feuding aunts duel over the romantic education of their niece. Whose love is best?

Enjoy the diversity in this series as two sisters confront the imperfection of their family, a routine witness preparation session becomes a total meltdown after the defense witness reveals suspicious information, and the spirit of a Canadian drag queen comes back to shine some light on his childhood and adolescence.

In this series, you’ll experience three life changing scenarios as one man attempts to escape the grim reaper after warnings from two prophecies, then one individual’s life is changed forever after receiving a ‘strange inheritance’ – his grandmother’s movie projector. And third, a woman suspects her partner has been unfaithful and she is mad enough to kill.
