Your Chance to Experience the Development of a Musical
Have you ever thought about what it takes to produce a movie? To produce it from concept to production can take years and an innumerable amount of people. You have to have full development of the storyline, character development, producers, directors, actors, musical scores, costumes, makeup, technical support… and the list goes on.
The same is the case for a musical. The development of a musical from concept to production can take many years, and transpires through many phases. So here’s the really cool part! YOU can take part in the development stage of Kitty. Kitty is a musical that is based on a book by John Keating. The lyrics are by Sandra Lowell. Kitty is set in Ireland and England during the 1880’s.
There are three main characters. Kitty is the madam in the middle of a scandal, Parnell is her lover and Willie is her estranged husband. Parnell, being the Irish Home Rule leader, must deal with being forced from power as Willie exploits his wife’s social connection with the leader. This exploitation spells the end, the doom of the Home Rule movement. But will it doom the love relationship?
You can experience the reading of Kitty during this one time event on Monday, November 9th at 8 PM. This is a unique experience to be able to be a part of the developmental process. Kitty is currently being developed by The Hot Metal Musicals Incubator. This incubator provides the critical developmental elements to move a work forward.
This is a MTAP (Musical Theatre Artists of Pittsburgh) project, which is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas.
