THEATER – BETTER THAN A BOOK?

Do you remember the last good book you read… that really good book? Think about what happened when you closed the cover for the final time. How did you feel? Were you a bit sad, your time with those characters just came to an end. No longer would you delve into the depths of their soul. If you like to read, you may have read books that have left you with any of the following thoughts or feelings:

UPLIFTED
Feeling like you can take on the world, happy for the characters, feeling good about what’s going on in a certain area or even within the world.

AWARE
In awe that such a terrific or horrific action could take place, whether from an individual, team, workplace, or even from within an entire culture or country.

EDUCATED
Able to at least in part, understand what others may be experiencing and having a level of empathy, even if you yourself have never experienced that situation, (we’re talking about great books here, not how-to books)

TORN
You may ask yourself “did that really just happen”? You may wonder how do I really feel about that? I think I understand both sides, but maybe it’s not as straightforward as I thought. I’m just not sure what to make of it.

DISTURBED
How could that happen? Why did no one stop that from occurring? Where is our society heading?

Theater is the same, with the exception that the characters come alive on stage. If you identified with any of these feelings, you’re going to love what our theater has to offer. If reading isn’t your thing and ‘Oklahoma!’ is the first word that comes to mind when you think of theater, well, you just have yet to experience off the WALL Theater.

Going to the theater can provide you with many different experiences, each its own journey in and of itself. Like reading a good book, one production might leave you wanting more, wanting to know what happened with the character after the play ended. Another might leave you with an overwhelming sense of pride, power and happiness. Another might be on your mind at the oddest times, thinking about the different layers of society, the different personalities, the outcome. And the really good ones, well, just like that incredible book, you may find that you’ve been touched so deeply that months later, you realize you just aren’t quite the person you used to be. Your horizons have been expanded.

We’ll be releasing our upcoming 2015-16 Pittsburgh Theater season in the near future. Stay tuned, you won’t want to miss this lineup. After all, who you are a year from now just might be on the line.
