Theater is...
“A Collaborative Form of Fine Art”: Our technical and artistic team, led by Stage Manager Erika Cuenca, have collaborated to prepare a stage that will make you believe you are sitting in watching the private mother-daughter affairs in the mother’s living room through the wonderful use of the set, props, costumes, lighting and sound.“That Uses Live Performers”: Some of Pittsburgh’s finest professional actors, including Daina Michelle Griffith and Virginia Wall Gruenert, not only act the part of the characters, but also act the part of themselves as the actors. Being obviously aware of you, the audience, you’ll feel as though you’re part of the play too.
“To Present the Experience of a Real or Imagined Event”: This play ‘explores universal issues’ including mother-daughter relationships, wellness and illness, and racial integration. You may rethink your definition of wellness by the end of this play!
“Before a live audience”: That’s you! But in this play, the characters are aware of you. Don’t be surprised if you feel as though you’re being spoken to directly by the actors.
“In a Specific Place”: The setting here has double meaning. The main setting for this autobiographical play is the here and now, at our theater, Off The Wall Theater, right here in Carnegie, PA. The mother’s living room has literally been taken from her Michigan home and placed on our stage. Within this set, you’ll then be transported to various sites in and around the Lansing, Michigan area such as the allergy clinic, a neighborhood town meeting, a 4th of July event, and a 3rd grade classroom.
